My Word of the Year

Yaya over at Yaya Stuff had a brilliant post about how she picks a word to live by throughout the year instead of making resolutions, and it got me to thinking about mine.

I have been working since I was 14 years old and have worked ever since.  Due to circumstances, some beyond my control, I was not fortunate to be a stay at home mom (SAHM).  However, for the longest time now, I have had a dream of being a work at home mom (WAHM).  For 2010, my main goal is to take steps to achieving that dream.

Okay, so it's more of an acronym than a word, but it's my word of the year.  To keep me on track, I will be keeping a list of my goals and will keep ya'll updated with regular posts.  My first task was to identify how I will make it possible. Here is what I have come up with so far:

1.  Develop a regular income stream from my blog
2.  Find a legitimate and decent paying work from home opportunity

I plan to break down these two larger tasks into smaller more manageable steps in the next few weeks.   You may have already noticed some changes I've made to my blog, such as offering ad space and premium giveaway listings.  I'm thrilled to be sharing my first client testimonial with you:

"Midday Escapades is the way to go!!! Since I listed my giveaway with her, within 4 hours I had 40!!! entries and within a week I have 455 entries and RISING! With still 2 weeks to go! This is an amazing service that I will faithfully be using! I AM SO GRATEFUL! Midday Escapades is worth the money if you want to promote your giveaway! Thanks again!" -Nikki, La Mode Consulting

I will also be experimenting with the placement of certain ads while trying to keep it as unobtrusive as possible for my readers. So, please bear with me and don't be afraid to let me know what you think.

No worries though.   Midday Escapades will still be the same community driven and blogger-friendly place that you like to visit, bringing you midday escapades (to be continued this week), memes and weekly fun themes.

I will continue to feature all you awesome bloggers out there.  I also have plans to evaluate the reader survey to make any necessary improvements - click here if you haven't taken it yet (13 spots left for the first 100 entries eligible for a $10 Target gift card).

If you are a WAHM or a wannabe WAHM like me, I would love to hear from you.  With some hard work and much luck, I just may be able to say at the end of this year that I am ever closer to being a:

Proud WAHM

What's your word or special goal for 2010?

Happy escapes!

That is awesome! I hope it all works out for you. I too have been kicking around some ideas on how I can make money from all the work I put in on my blog.

What an awesome blessing it is to be in the home, but the bigger blessing is to be able to generate an income while being there.
That was an awesome review that you received from your client.

Great job and God Bless.

The last couple of months I set myself up as a L.L.C. Now, this year I need to start bringing in income. I'm not sure if I want to make my blog an income stream. I do want to do more freelance writing. I've joined the local Chamber of Commerce and have already started networking. We'll see. I'd love for you to take a look at my Disclosure statement. I got the idea off ProBlogger.

I like the idea of having a word for your "theme" of the year. I may have to do that myself.
You are doing such an awesome job with your blog. I would love to be able to bring in some extra income with mine, but I just don't have the time to devote to it that it needs.

Great job on your blog and good luck this next year!

Wow...seems like we have quite a bit in common. I also started working when I was 14...and was unable to be a SAHM. I launched my own business in November '09 - while still employed at my current job - but I'm hoping to use my upcoming time off from maternity leave to transition into a full-time WAHM instead of going back to my corporate job.
