Ah, the letter "O". So many interesting escapades I could have taken that start with that letter. A friend suggested finding an Opium parlor and while that sounded like it would be an amazing "trip", but alas there was none to be found in the local yellow pages.
For the continuing journey from A-Z of my midday escapades, I opted to stay inside and try out my hand at Origami: the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. I had once heard about a lady who folded 1,000 Origami paper cranes because it would bring her good luck for the year. She claims that her luck indeed was good after she accomplished this task. What the hey, why not try my hand at folding a paper crane.
I set about to find some instructions on the net and settled on this one: http://www.pacificfriend.ca/html/how_to_fold_a_paper_crane.html. I imagined it would be an easy task (despite my glaring craft challenged self), after all the instructions were only 25 steps. I grabbed the nicest color paper I could find nearby and set about folding my very first paper crane.

Whadda you think of my first crane? It took me about 25 minutes give or take. Not bad for a first timer right? Will I fold 1,000 cranes for good luck this year...I dunno yet, but I may fold a couple more just for practice. Have you or will you fold any paper cranes?
p.s. As it turns out, the legend according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_origami_cranes is actually: anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. Now where can I find a crane to grant my wish?
Happy escapades!

One of my friends definitely started the 1,000 - I'm not certain whether she finished it, but she certainly did a lot!
I learned to do this when I was about 10. It was a great thing to know, hours of fun entertaining myself, teaching classes of kids to do it. I'm sure I've folded at least a 1000 by now. Have a great day. Holly:)
I am impressed you tried! I can't see your pics, but will look forward to seeing them soon. :)
I am following you on follower friday! :)
Paper cranes look hard to make at first but once you have the hang of it, then it'll be easier. What a way to spend your day.
I'm impressed.
Cool! I learned something new today:-)
Wow good for you! I have always wanted to try out orgami but i dont have the patience to learn!
Oh I gotta give this a try. I'm not a paper nut though so not sure what kind of patients it'll take but I'll give it a try anyways. 1 to go 999 to go.
Take care Lynn and have a great evening. God Bless.
How incredibly awesome Lynn!!! Congratulations on your folding accomplishment :) I'm very proud of my bloggy friend!
Maybe I should set to finish 1,000 cranes and ask for recovery from my illness....Hm. Interesting.
the fact that you tried and accomplished something new, and in 25 steps.. you get a big "You Go Gurl!" from me !
I don't "do" origami, but many of my friends have folded the cranes for their weddings. Yours looks pretty good...just think by 1000 you would be soooo good at it!
You rock! It turned out great!
Oh! haha I had to pull out the Origami-crane-making skills this past Tuesday at work (I'm a dental hygienist!) since my little 5 year old patient was real, real antsy waiting for the dentist to come check after I cleaned his teeth...so for some entertainment, I folded a "flying/flapping" crane to keep his attention.
My son is the origami genious! but so glad that I learned (I learned how when I was in 2nd grade when my family was stationed in Japan) how to fold a few tried and true pieces for times such as that Tuesday appt. :o) (and maybe goofy...but sometimes I'll fold tip money for our waiter/waitress at a restaurant) :o)
In Hawaii, often 1000 cranes are made and then put together in an image to be framed for wedding gifts.
Blessings & Aloha!
Love the Crane. We have quite a few here in Southern Maryland, in case you ever made 1,000. Now you'll know where to come for your request.
Following from Friday Follow. Fun blog, Lynn! My origami attempts never work out this well!
On a separate note, can you tell me how you got that cool Blogger toolbar at the bottom of the site?
Thanks! Jodi
Well what a neat idea! :) Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Enjoy your weekend!
