The Lost Art of Sauntering

saun·ter (sôn'tər):
To walk at a leisurely pace; stroll

Like most folks, my days are usually rushed from morning till when dinner is finally over and we are able to sit back and relax. That's why, in honor of the letter "S" in my Escapades from A-Z quest, I sauntered around the main street near my work for my midday escapade.

I walked at such a leisurely pace that other passerbys quickly, and some in an agitated fashion, ran around me. You know there is something to be said about slowing down to take a stroll through a place you may walk by every day and just never allow time to notice.

I was so relaxed by the time I returned to the office that it was almost impossible to gear up again for the rest of the afternoon, However, hard it was, I wouldn't trade in that hour of aimlessly moseying, people watching, window shopping and mind clearing sauntering for anything.

How about you - when's the last time you sauntered about and just let the business of life pass you by?

Happy escapades!

I too, like to slow down and saunter once in a while. It's so amazing at what you discover in a place where you visit daily if you just take the time to really observe.

I think I only saunter in book and craft stores. Such lovely places to be. Otherwise I'm hauling ass to get all of my tasks for the day/lunch break/minute done.

Our family loves to saunter and see new places. I love that picture! Looks like a Thomas Kinkade type picture!

One of my favorite things to do is get out and just walk around checking things out. A great pic!

If the sun would ever come out in Southern California, I would love to take a stroll on the beach!

I've spent so much time sauntering that I've got some running to do now to catch up. *Sigh*

I would love to have the time. Between the house, kids, husband, outside of house job, blogging, and everything else, I dont have time. I am in sprint mode CONSTANTLY!!! LOL. We are going on a mini vacation in three weeks. Maybe I can saunter then!!

All I do at my age is saunter--unless I'm tired; then I shuffle!

I love to saunter around my yard--looking at the flowers, and the trees. It is the most peaceful thing to do and clears my head:)

Good point. I never saunter...but I should do it more and smell some flowers along the way. Great advice.

I haven't sauntered in a while either! I usually do it when I'm traveling though!

I love walking slow through a place I can look around. Even at the mall I "saunter", drives my husband nuts!

I love this week's escapade :D

I really think that people need to take more time to aimlessly walk or 'saunter' around and just enjoy their surroundings.

When we are busy, we miss out on the simplicity of life.

Great idea! I need to slow down - everything - and this is a good way to start!
Thanks for reminding me!

Hi Lynn,
I'll miss FF! I am planning to do lots of sauntering now that I'm done with preschool for the summer. I'll keep stopping by now that I'm in the habit!!
Thanks!
Betsy

I think I only saunter when I'm on vacation exploring a new site and town - especially if it has lots of little antique shops! Especially if that town or site is at the beach!

Really like the photo you chose!
